The process of this project was to disassemble an object, and then reassemble it into a completely new item. I found an old pair of New Balance 991 shoes that my dad wore 25+ years ago when training for marathons and knew that it could make for an interesting reconstruction. From there, I spent months researching the object, gaining inspiration for how I wanted to reconstruct the sneakers. I dug up old New Balance ads on the internet and was fascinated by the eye-catching headlines and bold typography choices. One of my favorites was the headline "Worn by models in Paris and dads in Ohio". This inspired the creation of the glove as a fashion accessory for a model, contradicting the theme of New Balance not being a fashionable brand. The glove was hand-sewn, glued, and cut by myself. I loved the diverse materials and history of the shoe, making it one of my favorite projects to date.
